Greeting the Dawn

Delighting in Greeting the Dawn

Singing…

Although I had greeted the sunrise during early morning walks for years, a turning point began when three songs were inspired in August of 2002.  I had no idea more songs would follow.  However — much to my surprise — a pathway which had begun with the writing of Journey Through an Open Door gradually opened fully onto songs, songs that succinctly focused many of the themes within Journey. Drumming and singing each morning at sunrise became a daily celebration in Autumn of 2003 and continued for about 8 years, culminating in the writing of Golden Pebbles: Celebrating the New Earth.  In Golden Pebbles I shared the story behind the sunrise drumming and the Songs of Intention and Celebration with which which I greeted each new dawn.

Love a little more each day

Feel the smile in every flower

Receive, receive the wisdom of the trees.

Listen, listen.

And dance the dance of joy once again.

Greeting the Dawn, Drumming…

In the gathering light, the silence of early morning is punctuated by waves lapping against the shoreline.  The rhythm of the waves is joined by the heart-beat rhythm of the drum.  The voice of the drum stirs a memory — a memory into the past and into the future, both converging in "now".  The "now" of the early morning — when the veils between the worlds are thin — is a timeless place, both expansive and promising.  In this timeless place it is a delight to celebrate the new dawn — and possibility.
